During the first 18 mins he describes the challenges that USA faces in integrating renewable energy to our transmission grids. The main issue is lack of transmission to connect remote resources to load or market. 70% of our renewable resources are 150 miles away from market. Getting transmission built in this country is no easy task considering the many jurisdictions that developers have to deal with. The country needs to resolve issues of transmission cost allocation, transmission siting and transmission planning. These issues have traditionally been viewed or addressed on a local or state basis but now we need to look at them from an interconnection wide view and accordingly develop a national policy. Localities and States need to consider the long-term and the nation as a whole, and not just look after their own short-term individual interests.
